Founder’s Story – Ethiotamar Nonprofit Organization
My name is Fikirte Wakjira, founder of the Tamar Young Women Nonprofit Organization (Ethiotamar). The vision for this ministry and organization came to me through what I believe was a calling from God more than twenty years ago.
In 2005, while living in Los Angeles, California, I worked as a hairstylist in Beverly Hills, where I had the opportunity to serve many clients, including doing a blow-dry for actress Julie Andrews. Although I was building a successful career, God had a greater purpose waiting for me.
For five consecutive nights, I experienced powerful dreams. On the fifth night, I saw angels take me into the sky and carry me all the way to Ethiopia. In the dream, we traveled around Meskel Flower, and I saw many young girls dressed in short skirts, appearing vulnerable and in need of guidance and support. Then I heard the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking clearly to me:
"You will teach these young girls hairstyling."
That moment changed my life forever.
Since receiving that vision, I have traveled to Ethiopia every year to provide hair styling training, mentorship, and holistic ministry to young women. My mission has never been only about teaching a skill. It has been about empowering young women with dignity, purpose, confidence, and hope for a better future.
Through Ethiotamar and Tamar Young Women Nonprofit Organization, I seek to answer that calling by helping young women gain practical skills while also receiving emotional, spiritual, and personal support. I thank God for His guidance and faithfulness throughout this journey.
Thank God for the vision and the opportunity to serve.
